Environmental Justice vs. Mining: Taking action in Appalachia & Iceland
A two-part evening with two special guests.
First, learn about the dire situation at Marsh Fork Elementary School in West Virginia, where children spend each day in the shadow of 2.8 billion gallons of toxic coal mining waste. Ed Wiley, an ex-coal miner, will speak about the devastating toll that mountaintop removal mining is having throughout the Southern Appalachian mountains.
Second, learn how people are taking action to stop the environmental and social injustices perpetrated by multinational aluminum corporations in Iceland, leading up to international demonstrations on Sept 12.
